Apple Watch Series 3
The latest generation of the Apple Watch 3 has a mobile connection so it can send and receive messages, browse the internet and play songs from Apple Music without needing to be linked to an iPhone. It also works with Siri and has a 50 per cent better battery life.
The device, which is the same size and shape as the current Watch 2, can also make phone calls independently.
The Apple Watch 3 will be available on EE in the UK, with pre-orders opening on September 15. Apple Watch will start at $399 in the US for the cellular version and $349 for the non-cellular.
It has a battery life of up to 18 hours, a 70 per cent faster processor, GPS connection and is swimproof. The device is available in gold, silver, space grey, with new sports bands, and a new ceramic grey version.
The original Apple Watch is still available to buy at a new price of $249.
Apple TV 4K
Apple’s smart TV box is now available in high quality. Films in 4K quality will be available on iTunes for the same price as HD movies and will upgrade current purchases to 4K HDR for no extra price. Amazon originals will also be available in the upgraded quality.
Later it will have live sports as well. There will notifications before games and during. Live news will also be a part of the TV app. All notifications can always be turned off.
iPhone 8 and 8 plus
“This is a huge step forward for iPhone,” says Cook.
The iPhone 8 and 8 Plus has an all-glass body and comes in silver, space grey and a new gold colour. For those worried about cracking the front and back of the new device, Phil Schiller says the glass is reinforced with a steel and copper structure and is “the most durable ever in a smartphone”.
The devices have 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch retina displays and run on an A11 bionic chip. The iPhone 8 has a 12MP rear facing camera that is more powerful and can take in 80 per cent more light than the iPhone 7. The iPhone 8 Plus comes with a dual-lens 12MP camera with similar upgrades.
The new phones can now charge wirelessly by being placed on an inductive surface. It works with the Qi wireless standard, which Apple says it will help expand to public spaces such as airports and cafes.
It will work with third party wireless chargers such as those from Mophie and Belkin. Apple didn’t announce its own wireless charger, meaning owners will probably have to buy the accessory separately.
The iPhone 8 comes in 64 GB and 256 GB and starts at $699. The 8 plus comes in the same variants and starts at $799. The devices will be available for order from September 15 and in stores from September 22. iOS 11 will be available from September 19.
Apple announced the iPhone X at its event on Tuesday. The phone is pronounced “iPhone 10.”
The iPhone X is Apple’s most high-end iPhone of the year. It offers a complete redesign from the current iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus and was introduced along with iPhone 8 and 8 plus.
It features a new OLED display that’s more colorful than the LCD screens Apple used in earlier iPhones. Apple is branding it the “Super Retina Display.” The screen runs almost top to bottom and side to side, too, something Apple has never done before.
Apple said OLED displays come with trade-offs compared to its Retina Displays, but that its Super Retina Display supports HDR, offers the best color accuracy on the market and 3D Touch support.
There’s no more home button. You swipe up from the bottom of the screen to return home. That gesture also allows a user to multitask – swipe up and pause, and you can multitask and switch between apps. Users can call up Siri by saying “Hey Siri” or by pressing the side button.
iOS 11 will feature, among other things, peer-to-peer Apple Pay and a redesigned Control Centre. The phone also comes equipped with wireless charging.
The iPhone X will be available in space gray and silver. FaceID is used to unlock the device, authenticate Apple Pay and create customisable animated emoji, called animoji (there are 12 new animojis to create personal messages). The 3D front-facing camera learns what users look like and is only inaccurate one in 1 million times. It will come in 64GB and 256GB with prices starting from $999. It will ship from November 3.
